The Wickhambrook Centre for Specific Learning Differences is located on the site of Wickhambrook Community Primary school in the old school house. The Head Teacher and Governors of the school are responsible for its management in partnership with the Local Authority.
Established in 2006 it is designed to cater for the needs of pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3 who have Specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia attending schools in Suffolk.
Schools can refer pupils in years 3 - 9 using the pupil referral forms on the left hand side of this page.
Criteria for entry:
Pupils must be on School Action Plus.
The referral must be discussed thoroughly between pupils, parents and school.
Parental permission is required.
There must be evidence of Wave 3 provision and outcomes.
There must be evidence of a Specific Learning Difficulty.
Pupils must be able to cope with the dual placement.
Teaching is systematic, individualised and cumulative.
Pupils are taught using multi-sensory methods. This means using the senses as a way of making learning easier by looking, listening, saying and doing. Our teaching is highly structured, with progress made in small steps, building on what has been learned before. Varied and interesting activities are used to maintain motivation and enjoyment.
There are 4 groups of 8 pupils taught by 2 qualified teachers and 2 experienced teaching assistants.
The teaching is focused on an intensive immersion in literacy development (and numeracy if required) for the two days that pupils attend. All pupils will attend their ‘home' school on the remaining three days, and will stay on the roll of their home school throughout. Pupils attend the Centre for a maximum of three terms.
