Extra Curricular Activities

Swimming (Tuesday 3.10-4.00)

Pupils have the opportunity to develop their confidence and swimming skills in the water with the help of a member of staff to help them gain the skills they need to progress. Fun and social interaction whilst being safe is a key factor of the session after school.

Football (Monday 3.10-4.00)

Pupils have the opportunity to develop the individual and team skills aspect of football during a small sided competitive game on the field. Members of the PE staff join in with the session to help develop aspects of the game with pupils taking part.

Art (Thursday 3.15-4.00)

Pupils have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills through pencil drawing, painting, sketching, printing and the use of other textures and methods. Work is displayed in portfolios or on boards around the school.

Music (Monday 3.10-4.10)

Pupils have the opportunity to develop their musical abilities by playing in our school rock band. Pupils and staff sing and play instruments (such as guitars and drums). There are opportunities to perform in school such as assembly.

Chanter (Tuesday 3.10-4.10)

Pupils have the opportunity to develop their musical abilities by learning to play the chanter with our resident bagpipe player. They also learn about other aspects of scottish music and perform at our summer fayre.

Guitar Hero (Thursday 3.10-4.10)

Pupils have the opportunity to use the school's Guitar Hero World Tour equipment to develop their musical skills such as rhythm and keeping in time. It also helps with their hand-eye coordination and encourages team work.

Karate (Tuesday 3.15-4.30, Friday 3.15-4.15)

Pupils have the opportunity to practice traditional Shotokan Karate. The classes are based around training in basic techniques, formalised sparring and the 5 Heian Katas. Emphasis is on personal development, promoting self-confidence, self-esteem and mind / body coordination. We do not encourage competition in any way. Karate training has shown to be a positive influence on pupil's development and behaviour at Redwood Park and it helps to promote the School ethos of respect for everyone. Classes are held on Tuesday's after school and an advanced lesson on Friday's. There are currently twenty students attending on a Tuesday after school and six students at the advanced class. Some students are now into their fourth year of training.

Dance (Wednesday 3.15-4.15)

Pupils have the opportunity to take part in a range of modern popular dance sessions which improves both fitness and social interaction together with a fun and informal approach.

Fitness (Thursday 3.10-4.10)

Pupils have the opportunity to improve their fitness levels through cardiovascular, strength and stamina activities which can lead to positive weight loss, healthier lifestyles and a general well-being.

 
Photography (Thursday 3.10-4.00)
Pupils have the opportunity to use digital cameras and develop their creative skills through photography. Sessions are themed and skills learned will include printing, modifying and enhancing of photographic images, and uploading photos onto computers.
 
 
Remote Control Cars Club (Tuesday 3.15-4.00)
Pupils have the opportunity to develop their social skills with other pupils. The main objective of the club is to give the pupils an enjoyable experience. However, the club will also help to improve pupils hand eye coordination and enable them to be involved in competition.
 
 
History Club (Wednesday 3.15-4.30)

The purpose of the history club is to extend pupils knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of history. The club focuses on areas of history which the pupils have expressed and interest in but is situated outside of the curriculum areas and therefore not taught at Redwood Park. As a part of the pupils' learning activity with in the history club pupils will combine a visit to a site/location outside of school hours, which is connected to their study.
