Christmas is coming....

Mrs Jones (NCC_SJones)  07 Dec 2012 15:10
Another very hectic but enjoyable week!

The Christmas Fair was a great success and enjoyed by all.

The children continue to work hard and are producing sme excellent work. In Celebration Assesmbly today, Holly Class showed how creative they have been in relation to their Victorian topic. The class have designed and created biscuit boxes based on designs by Huntley and Palmers. They then made biscuits to fill the boxes!
Oak class continue to work on spreadsheets. The task was to budget for a party from a set sum working out costs per person  to ensure value for money! This will be a very useful skill for the future.
Cherry class have been busy with the video camera again. The class retold a modern version of the Nativity Story with actions and excellent speaking voices.

As we move towards Christmas there are lots of events happening in the coming two weeks and I hope to see parents at both the Key Stage 1 Nativity and the Christingle Service.

Have a good weekend!

Another Busy Week

Mrs Jones (NCC_SJones)  23 Nov 2012 12:21
It has been another very busy week in school and the children continue to work hard.

Celebration Assembly this week once again demonstarted the of a range of exciting and creative
learning opportunities that are provided by the teachers.
Cherry Class have been working hard on painting the clay dinosaurs they have made. They look even more fiersome now!
Oak class chose to show a video of the work they have been carrying out in dance sessions. The video clips are used by the children to evaluate their performance and enable them to think about improvements for the next session.

As you know Maple class are participating in the Junior Music Festival next week so they asked to share one of the songs they will be performing. They sang 'Shall We Sing' and demonstrated lots of enthusiasm and confidence which is great! I look forward to hearing more on Monday evening.

There seemed to be a theme running through our literacy and numeracy awards this week. Many teachers  noted the progress of the children in terms of being able to complete tasks with increased confidence and independence. As a school one of our main aims is to develop independence skills so it is really pleasing to see that this is certainly happening.

Hope you all have a great weekend and lots of rest. The next few weeks are going to be extremely fun packed!

Wonderful News!

Mrs Jones (NCC_SJones)  16 Nov 2012 15:35
We are delighted as a school that the planning application to expand the school buildings has been approved.
The coming months will be very exciting and I will keep you up to date with events!

It has been another very busy week in school. Year 3 have again had area rehearsals for their participation in the Junior Music Festival. I am looking forward to watching them perform on 26th November.

3 members of our School Council visited the Council Chambers today as part of the WEC Pupil Council . Miss Singh informed me that our reps did an excellent presentation to council members  bidding  to secure money for the installation of Bike Sheds.

In Celebration Assembly today Holly class demonstrated the work they have been carryingout in maths with capacity. They demonstrated excellent estimating skills!
Apple class have been considering perspective within their watercolour paintings. They explained how important it is to consider both the foreground and background in a piece of art work.

Miss Holland was so delighted with the response of Willow class to a homework task this week that she included this in our assembly. The children had been asked to design a home for a dinosaur and some of the 3d models were amazing!

We have some very talented children!

Have a great weekend

Welcome Back!

Mrs Jones (NCC_SJones)  09 Nov 2012 12:43
I hope you all enjoyed the half term break and that the children had an opportunity to rest in preparation for the busy weeks ahead!

You will read in the newsletter today that the School Council has been elected for the coming year. Congratulations to them all! Each candidate had to do a presentation to their class on why they should be considered and that is not an easy task.

In Celebration Assembly today Bonsai Class shared the work they had been doing in relation to Diwali. They created 'Divas' using dough and will be decorating these  next week. Cherry Class shared some of their art work which included labelled sketches of dinosaur faces. Some of them looked very ferocious! Maple Class have been working on creating Adverts in relation to a unit of work on persuasive texts. They created a fantastsic video of a TV advert-I was very impressed!

On Wednesday of this week Fr David talked to the children about Remembrance Sunday . He had done some research in relation to the 106 names on the memorial at Christ Church.Fr David explained that some of these men had actually lived on Milman Road and attended our school. This really brought it home to the children that war and conflict can affect those who live in our local communities. It was a very poignant and moving assembly and made us all reflect on the importance of promoting peace.

Have a great weekend

Excellent Session in Maple Class

Mrs Jones (NCC_SJones)  08 Oct 2012 15:50
I had a very interesting and enjoyable time in Maple Class last week.

I asked the children to tell me some of the things they really enjoy at N.C.C and how these made the school special. They came up with a fantastic range of positive aspects of the school. These included 'Great school dinners', 'Kind helpful friends' and 'teachers who help you when you get stuck'.

We then went onto discuss how we could make our school even better and the children were not short of ideas here either. There were some excellent suggestions such as 'learn different languages', 'a bigger playground' and suprisingly 'a longer school day'

I had a super session with them and look forward to working with other year groups over the next few weeks.

It has been a very busy and enjoyable start to the school year.

Thank you to those parents who attended the ’Meet the Teacher’ sessions. Feedback has been positive, especially in relation to the new approach to the setting of homework. Please continue to let us know how this is going, so that we can help you to support your children with the completion of homework.
